Steve, Cathy, and Nicholas -- Beaches make me run faster (created 2011-08-01)

I was on business travel in Miami Beach and took advantage of some quiet time to run along the beach. There was a nice boardwalk and all the high rise hotels protected me against excessive exposure to the setting sun. I'm doing interval training (a mix of walking and running) to build back up to running a 5K race. Here's a Google map of my route.

I started at (1) which was the Fontainebleu Hotel and walked/ran to (2) or around 27th Street and then back to the hotel. The route included a
--> five minute warm-up walk,
--> five minute run,
--> three minute walk,
--> five minute run,
--> three minute walk,
--> five minute run, and
--> five minute cool-down walk.

Back in March, I was also on a beach on the norther shore of Kauai. This was a family vacation. Our condo was right on the beach (1) and I would run down to the end of the beach (2) or partway to Tunnels beach (3) in the opposite direction.

I would probably be a much better runner if I was always near a beach, but that's difficult when you live in Kansas.

What now?
